In the preparation stage, nails protruding from the surface needs to be hammered down and all adhesives or staples that were used for holding previous floor coverings should be removed. Different types of sanders are used for the sanding. The sanding process involves three cuts – the first, second and third cut. A coarse grit paper is used for the first cut. At this stage of sanding, the old coatings are removed. Deep scratches that appear during the first cut are removed with medium grit paper during the second cut. The final sanding or the third cut is done with fine grip paper. By removing the shallow scratches, it gives a fine finish to the sanded floor. Specialized sanding machines are used for floor sanding. The sanded floor is then coated with appropriate sealant.
